Damage report
It was now time to assess the damage suffered by the Lunar Module during the landing. The toll was as follows: one of the four flood lights on top of the capsule, which represented no problem; the MechJeb flight computer, responsible for real-time calculation of orbital parameters and other useful information, such as remaining delta-v budget; the kerbonauts would have to fly back to lunar orbit without that information. However, the mission design ensured the trip back could be made, so it was not a major worry.
The third element, however, represented a bigger problem: the docking port of the capsule had been damaged during the incident. The damaged docking ring fell a few tens of meters from the landing site, so Aldmund did a quick walk to inspect it:
No repair was possible so the consequence was unavoidable: the Lunar Module would not be able to dock back with the Command Module. The mission originally intended for the Lunar Module to return to Kerbin too, docked to the CM. But now, this was impossible. The LM would have to rendezvous with the CM, and the kerbonauts would have to transfer with an EVA. Then, the LM would have to be left behind in lunar orbit.
Thankfully, none of this jeopardized the kerbonauts' return to Kerbin, which was now the single most important objective ahead.
