Landing on the Red Planet
After establishing a low near-circular orbit around Duna, the lander section of the spacecraft was to be assembled. This required undocking the lander and the buggy from the Pegasus-L and docking them together.
The Pegasus-L and the the habitat module would remain in orbit while the kerbonauts descended to the surface.
Landing on Duna requires a combination of parachutes and powered flight. Jeb piloted the descent skillfully.
And finally, the Ares touched down.
For the first time in Kerbal history, kerbonauts stepped on a wholly different planet. The buggy was deployed and checked.
Then, the kerbonauts proceeded to planting the flag to mark the occasion.
The first part of the mission was complete!
